Look Fantastic June 2019- Around the World edit.
This month’s Look Fantastic arrived today and it is the ‘Around the world’ edition, with items from all over the world. The box design is one of the best ones they have done- a geometric world map and I had high hopes for the contents.
As always, it comes with a copy of Elle Magazine and their own beauty magazine, which is packed with features and product information. I also liked the bright yellow tissue- it feels like summer!
I have been subscribed to this box for over a year now and the last few months have been very hit and miss. I have been playing it by ear as to whether or not to keep my subscription going and I have been close to cancelling several times recently.
So what products were in this month’s box?
The first one is from a brand I have used before- SVR Dry and Sensitive Eyelid cream (RRP £15). This is said to calm and soothe sensitive and itchy eyes and is a gentle treatment for dry and easily irritated skin. This is a French brand and this cream delivers 24-hour hydration as well as relieving discomfort, soothing and reducing redness, moisturising the eye area and protecting against external aggressors. I cannot find any information about the Cruelty Free status of this brand so i won't be using this until i have confirmation either way.
The second item is from a brand I have never heard of- Ecooking Peeling Mask (RRP £11.10). This helps to maintain skins youthful appearance by utilising AHA’s including Lactic, Salicylic and Glycolic acids. This is a Danish brand and this mask is said to buff away dead skin cells to reveal a radiant and glowing complexion. It is also 100% vegan and works in under 10 minutes. I do like a good face mask and I also like being introduced to new brands, so this is a product I am looking forward to trying.
The third item is from another brand I am not familiar with from Iceland- BioEffect EGF Serum (RRP £25). This gives skin a new lease of life using plant based EGF (which is a naturally occurring human protein) to act as an anti ageing treatment, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and boosting radiance. This absorbs into the skin quickly and deeply moisturises and rehydrates. The size of this is tiny, especially for the price tag. It almost feels like a sample. Unfortunately, this brand is not Cruelty Free, so it will be gifted.
The fourth item was from a brand I have used before, and there were 2 different items, so you didn’t know which one you were going to get. It was from Bumble and Bumble and I got the Go Big Spray (RRP £2.40) (the other being the Surf Spray, which I would have preferred!). This boosts limp hair, improves strength and texture and conditions to create healthy, soft and volumised hair. I do not need any help with thickening my hair, it is already super thick, so I would have preferred the surf spray, but I will still give this a try.
The fifth item was another brand I have used before, all the way from Greece- Natural Pure Greek Soap (£5). There were a few variations and I got Chamomile (there were also pomegranate or olive and olive blossom). This is a refreshing traditional greek soap bar inspired by historic beauty rituals of Cretan women. This is formulated with natural ingredients to elevate your daily cleansing routine. This soap has multi uses and it does smell lovely. I also like that it is 98% natural. I am over run with bar soaps though, and I do feel that soap is not a ‘treat’ as such. I will use it though.
The sixth and final item is another brand I have used before- Filorga Lift Structure (RRP £9.10). This is another French brand and it is formulated with active ingredients to deliver visible effects. It contains Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid to visibly reduce the signs of aging, tighten and plump skin and restore firmness in as little as 7 days. It can also help to reduce puffiness and inflamed skin. Again, another brand that is not Cruelty Free, so will be rehomed elsewhere.
I do feel like this box promised a lot but delivered very little. There are so many amazing brands out there from all over the world and I feel they missed a trick here. I feel frustrated at the size of a few of the items and even thought the total value of the box is far more than the £13 per month that I pay, it doesn’t feel like I got value for money at all. I will only use a few items, but as I hate things going to waste i will re-gift the others, but one of the reasons I, and I am sure many others, buy these boxes is for a little treat every month and this just doesn’t feel like one this time. Of course, that is just my opinion and I am sure there will be people out there who love this edit!
If next month is no good though, I may have to cancel as there are a few other boxes I have my eye on, as thanks to my work with Boxession I have been introduced to a lot of amazing companies. I feel some of the bigger companies such as LF, Birchbox and Glossybox don’t seem to care as much as the smaller companies about their subscribers- maybe they feel they don’t have to work as hard to gain subscribers as their reputation precedes them? Who knows. I have seen a spoiler for next month and while it is a brand I like; I will reserve judgement until I see the rest of the contents!
